  • So what happens if you are a hostage and you can't make a phone call because your captors will hear you and kill you? You text the Pakistani 911 "I'm a *******" and instead of the Pakistani SWAT team you get a reply that says you are being charged with obscenity and can expect 39 lashes?

  • I grew up about an hour from there. They are going to need to bring in firefighters and experts from a pretty large area to deal with this- probably Chicago, Rockford and Moline/Rock Island. I can't imagine they have the manpower otherwise.

  • States with the strongest local government (as opposed to state and federal government presence) and strongest civic participation rank the highest. Compare the top ten states in this article to the top ten states in education. There is a ton of overlap.

  • Obama's new policy wants to focus on deporting criminals- as in people who engage in illegal activity. His understanding of this, of course, is that ILLEGAL immigrants are not commiting a crime. We need immigration reform NOW, and whatever we decide on should be fully funded and enforced.

  • The use of the death penalty is so negligible in our country and so inconsistently applied that it is useless. Serial killers in states with no dp serve life terms while criminals with one violent conviction in other states are executed.
